Yep, that's me on the trapeze. Nothing conquers fear like just daring and that's something I've tried to embody in my life and in my career.
I'm originally from New Orleans, which means I learned that hard work should be in service of hard play and not work for its own sake. I've tried to bring a sense of play to every job I've ever had. With a journalism degree from Marquette University and a serious case of Woodward-Bernstein envy, I started as a reporter with the Associated Press. I learned to write quickly and concisely. A move to D.C. flipped me from hack to flack and I headed up p.r. departments at The Humane Society of the United States, The American Society for Training and Development, The American Psychological Association, and The American Diabetes Association. After a stint at Vanguard Communications, where I oversaw a federal contract on children's mental health, I moved to Charleston, SC, to write, to eat, to reflect...and to find the next adventure. I now split my time between Charleston and Richmond, VA, another city I've come to love.
My writing adventures have me trying to find an agent (know anyone?) for my first novel, a romantic suspense. I'm a freelancer and my byline's been in Charleston's Post and Courier, Charleston Magazine, Local Palate, Edible Charleston, Richmond Style Weekly, Somm Journal, and HealthLinks Magazine, among others.
I spent years hosting and producing two national podcasts. You can still hear them wherever you get your podcasts, but it was a LOT of work and I found it a distraction from my writing. Those two podcasts are a lifestyle podcast, "Keep it Juicy!" and "Hidden F&B," celebrating the hidden heroes in the food and beverage scene.
I'm also a past president of the Charleston chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier and certified WSET-2 in wine, so my interest in food and beverage is more than casual! But, with a start in New Orleans and a family that counts its memories by meals, what choice do I have?
